Skating: There is a complicated schedule when the park is open. Free for members. $1 for non-members. Everyone has to sign a waiver (available on www.ymca-snoco.org). Those under 18 years old, must have parent/guardian signature.

Cost: $700,000 (!) according to a press release

Rules: Full pads are required (a limited number of loaners are available free of charge). Skateboards and inline skates only; bikes and scooters are not allowed.

Facilities: Fountain, bathroom, shelter, lights.

Location: 10601 47th Place West, Mukilteo, Washington

Directions: Driving north on the Mukilteo Speedway (cool name), go left/west on 106 St SW (one block south of Harbor Pointe Blvd). Go a quarter mile and then right on 47th Place West.

History: The park opened Saturday, November 6, 2004. A press release says the idea of a Mukilteo skate park was ten years old.

Wheels roll at new park
A little work before play

MUKILTEO - Twin 7-year-old brothers Spencer and Conner Mitchell have been skating mainly in the family garage for two years.

"There was no place to go," said Steve Mitchell, their father.

But on Saturday, Spencer and Conner wore helmets and held skateboards in damp and chilly weather waiting to try out Mukilteo's new 19,000-square-foot skate park.

"Looks like fun," Spencer said.
